STRATEGIES TO EXPLORE THE COUNTERINTUITIVE SITUATION OF THE “GAME INTERRUPTED” BY HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS

Resumo: | In this article, strategies for solving a counterintuitive situation by high school students are analysed and some implications of the use of this task in the teaching of Probability are extracted. The counterintuitive situation is a simpler version of the famous problem posed by Chevalier de Méré to Pascal, which deals with the issue of the division of the prize in a game that was interrupted before it was finished. Two hundred and three high school students participated in the study and answered a questionnaire with nine Probability questions, including the counterintuitive situation that is the object of this study. In terms of results, it should be noted that students have adopted varied strategies, in which they combine analytical arguments with intuitive arguments and in which the idea of equity is very present, whether at the level of the game matches or the game. On the other hand, this diversity of strategies and the mobilization of analytical and intuitive aspects reveal the potential of the task for its exploration in terms of teaching Probability. Thus, such diversity, by favouring confrontation, discussion and sharing among students, contributes to the construction of a multifaceted probability concept and, consequently, well integrated in the learner's mind. High school students.Neste artigo analisam-se as estratégias de resolução de uma situação contraintuitiva por alunos do ensino médio e extraem-se algumas implicações do uso desta tarefa para o ensino de Probabilidades. A situação contraintuitiva é uma versão mais simples do famoso problema colocado por Chevalier de Méré a Pascal, que trata da questão da divisão do prémio num jogo que foi interrompido antes de ter terminado. Participaram no estudo 203 alunos do ensino médio que responderam a um questionário com nove questões de Probabilidades, entre a quais se incluía a situação contraintuitiva objeto deste estudo. Em termos de resultados, salienta-se que os alunos adotaram estratégias variadas, em que combinam argumentos analíticos com argumentos intuitivos e em que está muito presente a ideia de equidade, seja ao nível das partidas do jogo ou do jogo. Por outro lado, essa diversidade de estratégias e a mobilização de aspetos analíticos e intuitivos revelam o potencial da tarefa para a sua exploração em termos do ensino de Probabilidades. Tal diversidade, ao favorecer o confronto, a discussão e a partilha entre os alunos, promove a construção de um conceito de probabilidade multifacetado e, em última instância, bem integrado na mente do aprendiz.
