Racial and gender prevalence in the profiles of higher education professors

Resumo: From an intersectional approach and the analysis of microdata from the Census of Higher Education for the year 2018, the study aimed to verify the racial and gender profile of higher education teachers from public and private institutions. Therefore, we sought, through statistical tests and multivariate analysis models, to verify whether there is racial or gender primacy, in addition to the prevalence of other items in the occupation of the position of higher teaching. The existence of racial and gender disparities in higher education was found, with white and male teachers being prevalent. In addition, significant associations were observed in relation to the intersection of gender and race in the occupation of this space. Age and professional performance and the fact of being a public or private institution conditioned the chances of non-white men and women in general to work in higher education. These elements support the thesis of racial and gender primacy widely discussed in the specialized literature.

These elements support the thesis of racial and gender primacy widely discussed in the specialized literature.A partir de uma abordagem interseccional e da análise dos microdados do Censo da Educação Superior, referente ao ano de 2018, o estudo teve por objetivo verificar o perfil racial e de gênero de docentes do magistério superior de instituições públicas e privadas. Para tanto, buscou-se, por meio de testes estatísticos e modelos de análise multivariada, verificar se existe primazia racial ou de gênero, além de prevalência de outros quesitos na ocupação do cargo de docência superior. Constatou-se a existência de disparidades raciais e de gênero na docência superior, sendo prevalentes os docentes brancos e do sexo masculino. Além disso, observaram-se associações significativas em relação à interseção de gênero e raça na ocupação deste espaço. A idade e a atuação profissional e o fato de ser uma instituição pública ou privada condicionaram as chances de homens não brancos e de mulheres em geral atuarem no ensino superior.
