Resumo: This article analyses the hight rates of feminine imprisonment phenomenon in Brazil and its relation to drug trafficking, in the feminist criminology’s and feminization of poverty’s optic. The women prisoners’ profile follows the penal system’s discriminatory selection, once it subjects the young women in prison, mothers of more than only one child, in social vulnerability as well, with reports of drugs abuse and heads of single-parent families. The results appoint to the need of the implementation of specific public policies, that are guided to prevent situations of vulnerability that have been contributing to these women to join the drug traffic crime, as well as to make those who are already in prison to have available alternatives of work and be able to generate a income.
