Discourses from Brazilian Congresswomen about gender: institutional space and social media

Resumo: This article seeks to understand the discourses of Brazilian Congresswomen on gender relations in the pronouncements in the Chamber of Deputies and in their personal social media profiles. The goal is to reveal which themes, claims, symbols, and terms are enunciated by women representatives located at different points in the political spectrum. To this end, the research focuses on 344 Instagram posts, 57,309 tweets and 444 excerpts from speeches by Federal Deputies Gleisi Hoffmann (PT), Jandira Feghali (PCdoB), Bia Kicis (PL) and Carla Zambelli (PL), in March and May of the years 2019, 2020 and 2021. An analysis of critical discourse and an automated lexical analysis were performed. The results point to the low presence of discussions about gender in the corpus and a discursive action close to the general agendas of the parties, divided between opposition and government supporters.

El objetivo es desvelar qué temas, reivindicaciones, símbolos y términos son enunciados por mujeres representantes ubicadas en diferentes puntos del espectro político. La investigación se centra en 344 publicaciones de Instagram, 57.309 tweets y 444 extractos de discursos de las diputadas federales Gleisi Hoffmann (PT), Jandira Feghali (PCdoB), Bia Kicis (PL) y Carla Zambelli (PL), en marzo y mayo de 2019, 2020 y 2021. A partir del análisis del discurso crítico y léxico automatizado, los resultados apuntan a la baja tematización de discusiones sobre género y a una acción discursiva cercana a las agendas generales de sus partidos, divididos entre oposición y base gobiernista.Este artigo busca compreender os discursos de parlamentares brasileiras sobre mulheres e relações de gênero em pronunciamentos na Câmara dos Deputados e em suas mídias sociais pessoais. O objetivo é desvelar quais temas, reivindicações, símbolos e termos são enunciados por representantes mulheres localizadas em pontos diferentes do espectro político. Para tanto, a pesquisa se debruça sobre 344 posts de Instagram, 57.309 tuítes e 444 trechos de discursos das deputadas federais Gleisi Hoffmann (PT), Jandira Feghali (PCdoB), Bia Kicis (PL) e Carla Zambelli (PL) que datam de março e maio de 2019, 2020 e 2021.
