Resumo: In the 1960s, at the beginning of the Revolution, Cuban Psychiatry underwent a radical transformation. While in Cuba, the Soviet model was copied, and the government declared Socialism as the only political alternative, the Cuban psychiatrists who supported Marxism-Leninism occupied the central positions of power. In this way, Pavlovism and Reflexology were established as the only theories allowed to guide the psychiatric clinic. The purpose of this essay is to analyze the historical and sociopolitical context in which Marxism-Leninism became the essential reference of Cuban psychiatry in the first years of the Revolution.
