Resumo: The article presents the results of research that intended to investigate empowerment process f women suffering domestic violence. As theoretical frame, the article presents the concept f empowerment and the most important debates related to it. The method used was research interventiion in a reflexive group in a reference Center for women in situation of domestic violence in Rio de Janeiro. The main results were the adequacy of the concept for gender studies research on violence against women, the existence of multiple aspects described in literature. From these aspects, we highlight the tension between individual and social empowerment and the possibility of empowerment within a context of social support.

From these aspects, we highlight the tension between individual and social empowerment and the possibility of empowerment within a context of social support.El artículo presenta los resultados de investigación de maestria, que tiene como objetivos conocer el proceso de empoderamiento de mujeres em situación de violencia doméstica. En el marco teórico se situa el concepto de empoderamiento y sus principales ejes de discusión. La metodologia utilizada fue la investigación-intervención en un grupo de reflexión en un centro de atendimiento para mujeres en situación de violencia en Rio de Janeiro. Como resultados más importantes se destacan: la pertinência de la utilización del concepto de empoderamiento para los estudios de gênero y violencia, la existência de múltiplos aspectos de empoderamiento observados en literatura, destacandose la tensión entre individual y colectivo y también la posibilidad de vivir el empoderamiento en locales con fuerte suporte social.O artigo apresenta os resultados da pesquisa de mestrado que teve como objetivo conhecer o processo de empoderamento de mulheres em situação de violência doméstica. Como panorama teórico, será apresentado o conceito de empoderamento e os principais debates relativos a este. Como metodologia, foi utilizada a pesquisa-intervenção em um grupo de reflexão em um Centro de Referência para mulheres em situação de violência no Rio de Janeiro.
