Resumo: | There are a variety of forms of intellectual property protection, and now de world is seeing a strong process that to have in view the patent laws adoption. This patent laws need to provide protection that is internationally uniform and strong. The aim of this article is provide only a starting point for those seeking to familiarize themselves with this area of the law, which is continuing to develop rapidly, and with the process of implementation of Brazilian directives, which are aimed at harmonizing the local legislation to GATTTRIPS. Under this agreement, any country ratifying GATT, must accept, as part of the whole, the obligation to establish minimum standards of legal protection under copyright, patents, designs, trademarks and other areas of intellectual property. The role of cientific community and the consequences of the patent laws process are too analysed. |

The role of cientific community and the consequences of the patent laws process are too analysed.Existe uma grande variedade de formas de proteção da propriedade intelectual e agora o mundo assiste a um vigoroso processo que visa à adoção global das leis de patentes. Estas leis de patente buscam prover uma proteção internacionalmente uniforme e forte. O objetivo deste artigo é fornecer apenas um ponto de partida para aqueles que buscam se fami liarizar com esta área da legislação, a qual vem apresentando um rápido e continuo desenvolvimento, bem como com o processo de implantação das regras brasileiras, que ora procura-se harmonizar com as normas estabe lecidas pelo GATTTRIPS. Segundo as normas deste acordo, todos os países que ratificarem os termos do GATT, devem aceitar, como parte de todo o acordo, a Obrigatoriedade de estabelecer padrões mínimos de proteção legal para direitos autorais, patentes, desenhos, marca registrada e outras áreas da propriedade intelectual.
