Resumo: The relationship between behavioral sciences and neurosciences is analised as an interchange relationship in which both retain their independence. The reduction of one into the other is not possible or even desirable. Knowledge and manipulation of the nervous system does not eliminate the role of reinforcement contingencies in determining behavior. The fundamental question of behavioral control is discussed and both neural and environmental control are considered. It is concluaed that environmental contingencies have a unique relevance in understanding, predicting and controlling behavior.

O conhecimento e manipulação do sistema nervoso não eliminam o papel das contingências de reforço na determinação do comportamento.
