Resumo: | The target of this paper is to verify the usefulness of fundraising strategies of North-American Higher Education Institutions in the context of their Brazilian counterparts, in the view of latest managers. The research, qualitative in nature, was carried out within three North-American institutions and three Brazilian ones, using the multi-case research method, at an exploratory level. Twelve social subjects were interviewed and data were complemented through official documents. Main results indicate that fundraising in the researched North-American institutions is centralized, favored by proper culture and legislation, focuses individuals, is independent on geographical location of donors and is aligned to institutional attributes such as credibility, flexibility, convenience and interest of donors. Also, we found that volunteers are an essential ingredient to fundraising activities. In the Brazilian researched institutions, fundraising is still incipient, focuses on corporations, is still not a budget itemand volunteers are not used in the process. Due to the fundraising nature in the view of the Brazilian managers interviewed, there is no restriction to the use of the fundraising strategies from North-American institutions at Brazilian counterparts. We proposed, as a contribution, a model displaying the elements and its implications for the success of the fundraising process |
