Resumo: From the perspective of managerial ideology this article sought to investigate how family management modulates childhood in order to make it productive. Therefore, it sought its relationship with the proliferation of programming teaching for children and adolescents. The qualitative and exploratory study was based on the data collection from websites of programming schools located in the cities of Porto Alegre and Osório (RS); interview with the manager of a programming school; and individual interview with parents whose children are enrolled in such courses. The results show that elements of managerialist ideology – concern with future employability; investment in knowledge considered profitable; precaution in occupying free time with activities considered useful – are revealed in the sales promotion of the programming school courses to meet the expectations of the fathers and mothers who enrolled their children in such courses.
