Contextualization: This research carries out an in-depth analysis of the paid rotating parking system in Curitiba, whose regulations date back to 1971, being subject to significant modifications in 2020 with the launch of EstaR Eletrônico by Urbanização de Curitiba S.A. In this context, the existence of nineteen thousand regulated spaces, designed to accommodate a fleet that exceeds the mark of 1,000,000 vehicles, highlighting the intrinsic challenges of constantly expanding cities. Goal: The main scope of this study is to deepen the understanding of the challenges and perspectives related to the pressing need for environmentally correct management of spaces allocated to rotating parking spaces in Curitiba. Method: The method adopted embraces an analytical and critical approach, examining the organizational innovation introduced by EstaR Eletrônico. The application of advanced technology to a pre-existing service is emphasized, with special attention to disregarding the relationship between the system and users. Furthermore, gaps concerning the neglect of environmental externalities inherent to urban areas intended for vehicle parking are investigated. Results: The results of this analysis reveal viable alternatives for the most noble use of parking spaces in Curitiba. They contribute substantially to a more sustainable and efficient approach to urban management, aligned with the contemporary vision of smart cities. Conclusion: Finally, this study highlights the imperative of environmentally responsible management of urban parking spaces. Furthermore, it calls for a more comprehensive and integrated consideration of the relationship between urban systems and citizens, in line with the fundamental principles of smart cities.
