Resumo: | Based on the analysis of the trajectory of Brazil’s Black Movement in the decade of 1980, the present article addresses how organizations and activists that form the Movement have interpreted and appropriated of distinct political opportunities available in different politicalinstitutional contexts. It is argued that based on their capabilities, objectives and strategies, the actors of the Black Movement network have used diverse repertoires of action in search of transformation of the deep racial inequalities in the country. Focusing elements such as the tensioning and institutional activism, it is sustained that the identified institutionalization of the organization and activists from the Movement in the research period did not necessarily mean abandonment of forms of extra-institutional confrontation. Instead, the research done shows complex relations established between institutionalization and contestation in the trajectory of the Black Movement that confront the traditional contraposition of this two processes in the literature of social movements. |

It is argued that based on their capabilities, objectives and strategies, the actors of the Black Movement network have used diverse repertoires of action in search of transformation of the deep racial inequalities in the country. Instead, the research done shows complex relations established between institutionalization and contestation in the trajectory of the Black Movement that confront the traditional contraposition of this two processes in the literature of social movements. Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (UFSC)2017-12-22info:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionapplication/pdfhttps://periodicos.ufsc.br/index.php/politica/article/view/2175-7984.2017v16n37p31510.5007/2175-7984.2017v16n37p315Política & Sociedade; Vol. 16 No. 37 (2017); 315-347Política & Sociedade; Vol. 16 Núm. 37 (2017); 315-347Política & Sociedade; v. 16 n. 37 (2017); 315-3472175-79841677-4140reponame:Política & Sociedade (Online)instname:Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (UFSC)instacron:UFSCporhttps://periodicos.ufsc.br/index.php/politica/article/view/2175-7984.2017v16n37p315/35979Copyright (c) 2018 Política & Sociedadeinfo:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessLeitão, Leonardo Rafael SantosSilva, Marcelo Kunrath2018-03-02T14:57:59Zoai:periodicos.ufsc.br:article/40914Revistahttp://www.periodicos.ufsc.br/index.php/politicaPUBhttps://periodicos.ufsc.br/index.php/politica/oai||ernesto.seidl@ufsc.br|| ps@cfh.ufsc.br2175-79841677-4140opendoar:2018-03-02T14:57:59Política & Sociedade (Online) - Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (UFSC)false |
