Science Fairs in Brazil: overview, results and recommendations

Resumo: The main objectives of this literature review are to outline an overview of the education and teaching research on Science Fairs based in Brazil; identify the main justifications presented to promote such kind of event; and point out the main results and recommendations from the papers. The search resulted in a total of 168 articles. After applying some exclusion criteria, this number was reduced to 38. The papers were classified into three categories of analysis: empirical and theoretical (n=19) research, literature review (n=2), and experience report (n=17). As main recommendations we highlight the need of i) attention to the epistemological conceptions promoted in the Science Fairs, ii) improvements in pedagogical and methodological guidelines for the development of student’s projects and iii) innovations in the methodology of evaluation of projects and its presentations, as well in the evaluation of the Fairs. We also highlight the potential of Fairs in teacher education and in the formation of a critical citizen consciousness.

We also highlight the potential of Fairs in teacher education and in the formation of a critical citizen consciousness.Os objetivos da presente revisão da literatura são traçar um panorama das pesquisas sobre Feiras de Ciências sediadas no Brasil constantes no Portal de Periódicos CAPES/MEC na área de Educação e Ensino, identificar as principais justificativas apresentadas para realização de Feiras Científicas e apontar os principais resultados e recomendações oriundas das publicações nesses periódicos. A busca resultou em 168 artigos que, após aplicação de critérios de exclusão, reduziu-se a um total de 38 artigos, classificados em três categorias de análise: pesquisas empíricas e teóricas (n=19), revisão da literatura (n=2) e relatos de experiência (n=17). Como principais recomendações destacamos que é preciso i) atenção às concepções epistemológicas fomentadas nas Feiras de Ciências, ii) melhorias nas orientações pedagógicas e metodológicas para o desenvolvimento dos projetos e iii) inovações na metodologia de avaliação dos projetos, para além da avaliação dos trabalhos apresentados no dia da exposição, assim como melhorias na avaliação das Feiras.
