Uses and users of Minas Gerais Public Archive in face to face and digital environments

This exploratory research has had an aim to investigate and to compare the users’ use profile of external and remote users of The Minas Gerais Public Archive, due to shortage of users studies in the referred institution and in the Archival Science in general. Paper questionnaires were applied among 39 users in-person in that Archive and other 54 online throughout 2017 year. It predominates high education users of Humanities area for both access means. It was noted more diversity of queries done by remote users than by face to face users, despite the fact that for both predominates academic use and queries to public documentary archives – specially to State Interior Secretary and provincial section – and to one of the institutions' collections – Contos House. It is concluded the necessity of investing more in remote services, as many users initiate their researches in that environment before going to face to face environment, and to allow more visibility to the Archive and for being the environment in which there are more queries demanded by users.
