Theoretical relationships between Macro evaluation and the Records Continuum Model

This article discusses the relationships established between the Records Continuum Model and Macro evaluation, based on a discussion that is increasingly present in the archival context, in which new management modalities have been considered as alternatives to traditional methods of document management, especially in digital environments. Therefore, the work sought to discuss a document management model, in this case, the Continuum Model, and a document evaluation method, the macro-evaluation. The work proposes the study of the possible relationships between the macro evaluation method of the evaluation function and the Continuum Model of document management through a literature review of the main concepts of document management, the Continuum Model, and the evaluation and its methods, highlighting Macro-evaluation, as well as contextualizing them socially and historically. The relationships were studied from the interpretation of the Macro evaluation inserted in the diagram of the Records Continuum Model by Frank Upward. In this analysis, it was identified that macro evaluation, at a theoretical level, allows, through a top-down analysis in the Continuum Model, an approach with greater capacity to analyze the social and historical contexts of document production. The article concludes that this relationship can be studied a posteriori in the practical field, proposing new perspectives both for Macro evaluation and for the Continuum Model.
