CEDAP: the memory guardian of the hinterland of Paranapanema valley in Brazil

The purpose of this article is to discuss the scarce stimuli for the construction and maintenance of adequate spaces for the preservation of memory materialized in human deeds. This is a case study that proposes a reflection on the importance of the Documentation and Research Support Center (CEDAP) of the Faculty of Sciences and Letters - UNESP of Assis-SP, as guardian of the memories of the hinterland of the Paranapanema Valley. The objective is to socialize contributions to research and stimulate initiatives aimed at preserving the memories of other regions of Brazil. The research was developed in the light of the thinking of Burke, Nora and Hartog. Visits were made to the electronic address and the physical headquarters of CEDAP, consulting the materials in loco and collecting some information from employees. The applied methodology is based on the analytical procedure, empirical method and documentary research technique. It was concluded that CEDAP has a very rich collection and that the preservation of archives is indispensable for the exercise of citizenship and for the preservation of memories and identities
