ARCHIVAL PRINCIPLES AND CHARACTERISTICS OF RECORDS: some terminological issues

Resumo: Terminology is fundamental for scientific communication and development of the most diverse areas of knowledge and therefore understanding how concepts are enunciating in terminology dictionaries offers an overview of the development of the area. Methodologically, the study is a bibliographic and documentary, descriptive and qualitative research.. It analyzes how Brazilian dictionaries of archival terminology treat archival principles, as well as the characteristics of records, based on the meaning of the term principle and characteristic from philosophy and Dahlberg’s Theory of Concept is used. Three Brazilian dictionaries of archival terminology were analyzed: Dictionary of Archival Terminology (DTA), from the Association of Brazilian Archivists / São Paulo State Nucleus (1996), Brazilian Dictionary of Archival Terminology (DIBRATE), from the Nacional Archives from Brasil (2005) and Dictionary of Librarianship and Archivology (DBA), by authors Murilo Bastos da Cunha; Cordélia Robalinho de Oliveira Cavalcanti (2008). It notes that although some concepts are stated in a similar way, the naming of a principle and also of characteristics does not occur in a uniform manner. It concludes that terminology reflects the theoretical development of the area and suggests that other research should conceptually deepen territoriality, imprescriptibility, inalienability and archival integrity

Metodologicamente o estudo é uma pesquisa bibliográfica e documental, descritiva e qualitativa. Analisa como dicionários brasileiros de terminologia arquivística tratam os princípios arquivísticos, bem como as características dos documentos de arquivo, a partir do significado do termo princípio e característica; para tanto, utiliza a filosofia e a Teoria do Conceito de Dalhberg. Foram analisados três dicionários brasileiros de terminologia arquivística: Dicionário de Terminologia Arquivística (DTA), da Associação dos Arquivistas Brasileiros/Núcleo do Estado de São Paulo (1996), Dicionário Brasileiro de Terminologia Arquivística (DIBRATE), do Arquivo Nacional do Brasil (2005) e Dicionário de Biblioteconomia e Arquivologia (DBA), dos autores Murilo Bastos da Cunha; Cordélia Robalinho de Oliveira Cavalcanti (2008). Constata que embora alguns conceitos sejam enunciados de forma semelhante, a nominação de um princípio e, também, de características não ocorre de maneira uniforme.
