Resumo: The new research demands led the Archives to rethink their lines of action and the very concept of a document of public interest. From this, the archival institutions started to acquire collections of private origin as personal, business, family and other archives. These incorporations can be seen as an attempt by the Archives to collaborate, by making new sources available, for the construction of History. The present work proposes to present a survey on the application used by the public archives of the Brazilian states of southeastern Brazil to evaluate and acquire records. For the development of this research, we opted for the application of the multiple case method study, with the research process divided into three stages: the first stage consisted of a theoretical / exploratory survey on introductory topics; a second stage consisted of applying the case study to the four public archives of the states in southeastern Brazil; the third step consisted of analyzing the collected data, using the data triangulation method. From the collected data collected so far, it was possible to identify that no state archive in southeastern Brazil has a policy for acquiring regulated private records.
