The formation of archivists in postgraduation studies in Venezuela

Archival studies began to be raised gradually at the university level to mid-twentieth century. However, their development, have been linked to the work of the librarian, historian and related professions. However, with the rise of ICT, the role to be played by archivists is crucial, since documents are produced in various media, including electronic products must be organized, managed and standardized, as well as those that occur and receive the various institutions and companies in the private and public sector (directorates, departments and administrative units). Also, the system should be at the same level of information systems of the organization, so there must be a specialized training in the postgraduate department for the demand that society demands in this area.This vein, this Communication aims to implement a proposal to allow complete graduate training in archival science graduate profile in Venezuela. To achieve our mission, we decided to make a first approximation through a study of historical and descriptive, compiling and analyzing the undergraduate and graduate offerings in the Archives area, in public and private universities of Venezuela, identifying a lack but urgent need, to create curricula that provide for the postgraduate area. We present a proposal for graduate programs for professionals in the archival. Finally, the findings highlight the need for continuity in the training of archivists, according to labor market demand.
