Resumo: The present essay aims to problematize the medicalization of the suffering of the Xukuru of Ororubá people, Pesqueira, PE, based on the concepts of biopower and biopolitics. We attempted to articulate recent scientific evidence for an analysis of tensions related to intermedicality and healthcare in the implementation of the National Policy of Attention to the Health of the Indigenous Peoples. The approach of the psychic suffering of the Xukuru has been  mainly dealt with via diagnoses of mental disorders and prescription of psychotropic medication. These practices privilege the disease, depoliticizing the traditional practices of cure and compose the set of biopolitical strategies and the biomedical knowledge-power for the government of the populations. It is concluded that deterritorialization and attempts of acculturation impact on the predominance of biomedical therapeutic practices and to silence the psychic suffering of the indigenous people, what opposes the protagonism expressed in the slogan: "Tell the people to advance!"

It is concluded that deterritorialization and attempts of acculturation impact on the predominance of biomedical therapeutic practices and to silence the psychic suffering of the indigenous people, what opposes the protagonism expressed in the slogan: "Tell the people to advance!"Se objetiva problematizar la medicalización del sufrimiento del pueblo Xukuru del Ororubá, Pesqueira, PE, a partir de los conceptos de biopoder y biopolítica.
