Denominations for the lexical item “diabo” in capitals of Brazil: a Geolinguistic study with data from the linguistic Atlas Project Of Brazil

Resumo: The article analyzes the denominations for the lexical item diabo in the North and in the Northeast of Brazil. For this, surveys of the Atlas Linguístico do Brasil Project were used, carried out with 120 informants, equally distributed by both sexes, in two age groups and two levels of education, selected according to the criteria of Contemporary Dialectology. There were registered 332 lexical items, concretized through thirty-one variants: bad angel, antichrist, beast, beast, beelzebub, ugly beast, bad beast, dog, devil, capiroto, horn, bad thing, cramunon, creature, cross- creed, demo, devil, disgrace, devil, grimy, brimstone, enemy, lucifer, nephisto, prince of heaven, sapiric, satan, satan, dirty, withered, stuff. The study served to demonstrate the linguistic and cultural diversity of the religious lexicon of Portuguese spoken in the North and Northeast of Brazil, being extremely important for the knowledge of the multidimensionality that the Portuguese language assumes in different physical and sociocultural spaces.

Para ello, se utilizaron encuestas del Proyecto Atlas Lingüístico de Brasil, realizadas con 120 informantes, seleccionados según los criterios de la Dialectología Contemporánea. Se registraron un total de 332 ítems léxicos, concretados a través de 31 variantes: ángel malo, anticristo, bestia, fiera, belcebú, bestia fea, bestia mala, perro, diablo, capiroto, cornudo, cosa mala, cramunhão, criatura, cruz credo, demo, demonio, vergüenza, diablo, mugriento, azufre, enemigo, lucifer, nefista, príncipe de los cielos, sapírico, satanás, satanás, sucio, picazón, cosa. El estudio sirvió para demostrar la diversidad lingüística y cultural del léxico religioso del portugués hablado en el Norte y Nordeste de Brasil, siendo de suma importancia para el conocimiento de la multidimensionalidad que asume la lengua portuguesa en los diversos espacios físicos y socioculturales.O artigo faz uma análise das denominações para o item lexical diabo no Norte e no Nordeste do Brasil. Para isso, utilizaram-se inquéritos do Projeto Atlas Linguístico do Brasil, realizados com 120 informantes, distribuídos equitativamente por ambos os sexos, em duas faixas etárias e dois níveis de escolaridade, selecionados de acordo com os critérios da Dialetologia Contemporânea. Foram registrados 332 itens lexicais, concretizados através de trinta e uma variantes: anjo mau, anticristo, besta, besta-fera, belzebu, bicho feio, bicho ruim, cão, capeta, capiroto, chifrudo, coisa ruim, cramunhão, criatura, cruz-credo, demo, demônio, desgraça, diabo, encardido, enxofre, inimigo, lúcifer, nefisto, príncipe dos céus, sapirico, satã, satanás, sujo, tinhoso, troço.
