Resumo: | Max Weber's contributions to the field of knowledge are vast and extend to varied areas, such as Sociology, Administration, Economics and Law. However, little is discussed about his possible contributions to a Sociology of Sport. With the intention of inserting this author in the field of discussion, the present article is an exploratory bibliographic research, divided in two sections: 1) How sport is portrayed in Max Weber`s “Economy and Society”; and 2) the application of a methodological approach, as well as a sociological analysis of sport, based on the theoretical Weberian framework, represented in Weberian historian Allen Guttmann`s works. In this sense, we demonstrate how the ideal-type sociological category, as conceived by Weber, can be used efficiently to analyse sports. |

In this sense, we demonstrate how the ideal-type sociological category, as conceived by Weber, can be used efficiently to analyse sports.
