Weber’s place in the sociology of the reproduction of Pierre Bourdieu and Jean-Claude Passeron

Resumo: This bibliographic research discusses two questions that intertwine in the course of the article: the first, we analyze to what extent Bourdieu/Passeron's theory of reproduction, in the field of sociology of education, is debiting the Weber's theoretical heritage; the second, starting from the previous one, we intend to clarify the reasons that, in theoretical terms, led the French authors, of a certain optimism in their first researches - the thesis of rational pedagogy found in Les héritiers: Les étudiants et la culture of 1964 -, to the problem that guided the research about a completely deterministic view of socio-cultural possible changes trough the education system in La Reproduction. Éléments d’une théorie du système d’enseignement from 1970. We point out that in the Weber's theoretical elements reworking - due to the social function of Durkheim-inspired symbolism - there was a different understanding of the education’s system role in the modern society. What would no longer open space for a normative position such as that was previously intended in Os Herdeiros.

What would no longer open space for a normative position such as that was previously intended in Os Herdeiros.O estudo, de ordem bibliográfica, discute duas questões que se entrecruzam no decorrer do artigo: a primeira, analisamos em que medida a teoria da reprodução de Bourdieu/Passeron, no campo da sociologia da educação, é debitária da herança teórica weberiana; a segunda, partindo da anterior, pretendemos esclarecer os motivos que, em termos teóricos, levaram os autores franceses, de certo otimismo em suas primeiras pesquisas  – a tese da pedagogia racional encontrado em Les héritiers: Les étudiants et la culture de 1964 – a uma visão completamente determinista quanto a possíveis mudanças socioculturais via sistema de ensino em La Reproduction. Éléments d’une théorie du système d’enseignement de 1970. Apontamos que na reelaboração dos elementos teóricos de Weber – pela função social do simbolismo de inspiração durkheimiana – houve um entendimento diferente sobre o papel do sistema de ensino na sociedade moderna.
