Resumo: This article aims to reflect on the practice of the Italian Psychiatric Reform, relating it to relevant authors in the context of the Reforms in several countries, especially in France, England, and the United States. Some works by Félix Guattari, Michel Foucault and Franco Rotelli are explored in this text, with the aim of bringing them closer to Basaglia's ideas and his legacy. The Italian Psychiatric Reform is a world reference when it comes to work in the field of mental health and its foundations seem to be preserved in political struggles and civil rights, regularly changing through the (re)invention of institutions, which makes it singular. Deinstitutionalization, a key concept to respond to the practice carried out by the Italians, is one of the fundamental pillars of this instituting format for conducting care processes in the field of mental health care.
