Resumo: This article aims to expose the debate about the process of suburban space production during the belle époque in Rio de Janeiro through socio-spatial practices described in texts, illustrations and photographs published in illustrated magazines from the first two decades of the twentieth century. Illustrated magazines will be used as main sources, observing speeches and representations about the suburbs and the suburban people in that moment, as well as their claims and observations of columnists of the periodicals. Previously, the argument of the materialization of the modernization discourses of the time in the form of illustrated magazines is supported.

Serão utilizadas revistas ilustradas como fontes principais, observando discursos e representações sobre os subúrbios e a população suburbana da época, assim como suas reivindicações e observações de colunistas dos periódicos.
