Resumo: Objective: Access to information, to knowledge about a certain subject is fundamental for the elimination of prejudices, discriminatory behaviors, among other issues. In this sense, the study proposes to present capacitism and its forms of oppression instituted in society. Methods: Theoretical reflexive, based on an exploratory literature review with a qualitative approach in the form of an essay. Results: By means of a theoretical study, of essayistic nature, we emphasize that capacitating behaviors can happen subliminally by means of so-called pious demonstrations or prejudiced expressions dressed as philanthropic character related to the physical or mental characteristics of individuals considered deficient. Capacitism is also explicitly revealed through offensive looks and expressions and bodily distancing. Conclusions: Knowing, through access to information, these forms of disrespect for human diversity are the first step toward the deconstruction of capacitism in a society that aims to be inclusive According to this framework, we evidence the role of Information Science in the dissemination of knowledge about the subject, as well as in the use of ethical terms in its documentary products.
