The Design Thinking Method and Information Science research

Resumo: Objective: The present article aimed, in a general way, to investigate the Design Thinking method, its phases and techniques and, in a specific way, to describe the method; explore its use in Information Science research; and to identify the potential of the method in the research developed in the area. Methods: This article is qualitative in nature and has a theoretical and exploratory approach. To reach the outlined objectives, we chose to use the Systematic Literature Review, aiming to identify the scientific productions on the Design Thinking Method in Information Science. Results: The survey of research published in the field of Information Science that used the Design Thinking method showed that the use of Design Thinking in the area is emerging. On the other hand, the detailed analysis of publications and their approaches showed that although research use Design Thinking as a method, the in-depth understanding of the phases, techniques and procedures still configures a theoretical gap to be filled in the field of Information Science. Conclusions: the application of the Design Thinking method in studies undertaken in Information Science, punctually with the new demands facing technological development, demonstrates potential contributions to the understanding of complex problems and to the exploration of innovative creative solutions.

Método: la metodología utilizada es de carácter cualitativo y tiene un enfoque teórico y exploratorio. Para lograr los objetivos planteados, optamos por utilizar la Revisión Sistemática de Literatura, para identificar las producciones científicas sobre el Método Design Thinking en Ciencias de la Información. Resultado: el levantamiento de investigaciones publicadas en el campo de las Ciencias de la Información, que abordó el método Design Thinking, constató su uso en el área es emergente. Por otro lado, un análisis exhaustivo de las publicaciones y sus enfoques mostró que, si bien la investigación utiliza el Design Thinking como método, la comprensión profunda de las fases, técnicas y procedimientos todavía configura un vacío teórico por llenar en el campo de la Ciencia de la Información. Conclusiones: la aplicación del método Design Thinking en estudios realizados en Ciencia de la Información, puntualmente con las nuevas demandas que enfrenta el desarrollo tecnológico, demuestra contribuciones potenciales para la comprensión de problemas complejos y para la exploración de soluciones creativas e innovadoras.Objetivo: O presente artigo objetivou, de modo geral, investigar o método Design Thinking, suas fases e técnicas e, de modo específico, descrever o método; explorar a sua utilização nas pesquisas em Ciência da Informação; e identificar as potencialidades do método nas pesquisas desenvolvidas na área. Método: A metodologia utilizada é de natureza qualitativa e de abordagem teórica e exploratória. Para alcançar os objetivos traçados, optou-se pela utilização da Revisão Sistemática de Literatura, para identificar as produções científicas sobre o Método Design Thinking na Ciência da Informação. Resultado: O levantamento das pesquisas publicadas no campo da Ciência da Informação, que abordaram o método do Design Thinking constatou que é emergente a utilização do Design Thinking na área. Por outro lado, a análise minuciosa das publicações e suas abordagens mostrou que, embora pesquisas utilizem o Design Thinking como método, a compreensão aprofundada das fases, técnicas e procedimentos, ainda, configura uma lacuna teórica a ser preenchida no campo da Ciência da Informação.
