The use of figures of speech in the lesbianity domain in Lesbian Herstory Archives's photographic collection: a taxonomy proposal

Objectives: To explore the metaphorical terms used in the thematic representation (subject matter) in a sample of photographs in the Lesbian Herstory Archives (LHA), in order to organize them semantically for the web context.Methods: Uses the metafilter proposed by Orrico (2001b), based on Ranganathan's Faceted Classification, to categorize selected figures of speech through their Essence, Function and Mode. From this establishes characteristics that will guide the ranks and successions of the taxonomic proposal.Results: Demonstrates that the lesbian community uses the figures of speech as a means of affirming their identity. It points out the urgency of practical solutions that correct the deviations in the representations of lesbians’s subject and comes up with a taxonomic structure based on figures of speech that provide visibility in the web context.Conclusion: Highlights the need and urgency for discussions about gender and sexuality in the context of thematic representation, especially with regard to lesbianity and lesbians's representation and affective-sexual relationships between women so that this discursive community see themselves ethically represented in the instruments of a controlled vocabulary.
