Resumo: The objective is to investigate the prevalence of the Relative Age Effect (RAE) in male handball players from different categories. A search was carried out on the Portal de Periódicos CAPES for articles published until October 12, 2022 in Portuguese and English, exclusively with a male sample. From 127 articles found, 67 were excluded because they were duplicated or without open access, 21 after reading the titles and abstracts and 33 after reading the full text, with 6 articles being included for this review. Evidences show the RAE at the national and international levels of handball, with a predominance of athletes born in the first months of the year compared to those born in the final months, especially in younger categories. However, further research on RAE in men's handball are needed, since there is a scarcity of studies on the modality when compared to other collective invasion sports modalities.

Se realizó una búsqueda en el Portal de Periódicos CAPES de artículos publicados hasta el 12 de octubre de 2022 en portugués y inglés, exclusivamente con deportistas masculinos. De los 127 artículos encontrados, 67 fueron excluidos por estar duplicados o no tener acceso abierto, 21 después de leer los títulos y resúmenes y 33 después de leer el texto completo, siendo 6 artículos incluidos para esta revisión. Las evidencias muestran que hay EER a nivel nacional e internacional del balonmano, con un predominio de deportistas nacidos en los primeros meses del año frente a los nacidos en los últimos meses, principalmente en las categorías más jóvenes. Sin embargo, se necesita más investigación sobre el EER en balonmano masculino, puesto que hay escasez de estudios sobre la modalidad en comparación con otros deportes colectivos de invasión.Objetiva-se investigar a prevalência do Efeito da Idade Relativa (EIR) em jogadores de handebol masculino de diferentes categorias. Foi realizada uma busca no Portal de Periódicos CAPES de artigos publicados até 12 de outubro de 2022 em português e inglês, exclusivamente com amostra do sexo masculino. Dos 127 artigos encontrados, 67 foram excluídos por serem duplicados ou não possuir acesso aberto, 21 após leitura dos títulos e resumos e 33 após leitura do texto na íntegra, sendo incluídos 6 artigos para esta revisão. As evidências mostram o EIR nos níveis nacional e internacional do handebol, com predominância de atletas nascidos nos primeiros meses do ano em comparação com os nascidos nos meses finais, principalmente em categorias mais jovens.
