“I want a meeting”: dialogue with children in democratic child education management

Resumo: The aim of the current study is to address the management of Early Childhood Education by taking as principles the act of listening to, and the participation of, children. It analyzes interactions between children from two preschool classes and the pedagogical coordination of the investigated institution by taking into consideration topics addressed as opportunities to produce knowledge and to train professionals. The research is based on contributions from studies about childhood as interdisciplinary knowledge field, as well as on discussions advocating for the implementation of democratic management principle at childhood education institutions. Analyses have emphasized the importance of building daily work processes focused on children’s demands. Such a perspective was extended to dialogues with families. Therefore, it reflected about being adult, teacher, manager, and - in the case of the current study - about understanding training to childhood education professionals as a continuous process.

Analisa eventos de interações entre crianças de duas turmas de pré-escola e a coordenação pedagógica da instituição, considerando as temáticas levantadas como possibilidade de produção de conhecimento e formação dos profissionais. O trabalho sustenta-se nas contribuições dos Estudos da infância como campo interdisciplinar de conhecimento e nas discussões que defendem o princípio da gestão democrática nas instituições de Educação Infantil. As análises revelam a importância da construção de um trabalho cotidiano que considere as demandas das crianças. Tal perspectiva se estende ao diálogo com as famílias.
