The male educator in Early Childhood Education: what do fathers, mothers, and female educators think about it?

Men’s teaching skills, when it comes to Early Childhood Education - ECE ,is still accounted as being stigmatized. In face of this, the present research targets to analyze the conception of fathers, mothers, and female educators of children of 24 and 36 months of age in the city of João Pessoa-PB about the presence of male educators in ECE. 100 participants were interviewed: 40 fathers, 40 mothers, and 20 female educators. The data were analyzed as from the content analysis proposed by Bardin. Where the care-educate binomial is concerned, 34% of the participants were resistant to the fact that the male educator performs his duties successfully, such as caring and educating. The female educators showed greater resistance, manifested by 50% of those. The association between the caretaking of young children and women's natural abilities turns out as an obstacle to the professional performance of men in ECE. It is noteworthy that gender equity in ECE implies in the guarantee to freedom of professional choice and experience with children in the educational context deprived of prejudices of any sort.
