Resumo: This article studies the methodological foundations of Cartesian work as a philosophical antecedent in the structuring of ‘function’ and ‘symbolic form’ in Cassirer’s work. This incorporation would have been developed through two moments: first, it is recognized the value of the scientific and mathematical studies proposed by the Frenchman as an indispensable way for the study of the natural substances of the world; second, it is criticized the lack of methodological continuity used in the study of the human substance. To this end, a comparative analysis is made between the works of Descartes and those of Cassirer.

Federal University of Santa Catarina – UFSC2023-12-27info:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionapplication/pdfhttps://periodicos.ufsc.br/index.php/principia/article/view/9131310.5007/1808-1711.2023.e91313Principia: an international journal of epistemology; Vol. 27 No. 3 (2023); 497-517Principia: an international journal of epistemology; Vol. 27 Núm. 3 (2023); 497-517Principia: an international journal of epistemology; v. 27 n. 3 (2023); 497-5171808-17111414-4247reponame:Principia (Florianópolis.
