Resumo: This article presents a detailed analysis of the interactionbetween the formal and semantic levels of a song by Randy Newman,attempting to pinpoint its expressive mechanisms both as poetic text andas song. On this basis, we offer a Brazilian Portuguese translation of thesong that tries to achieve the same effects, so that it can be read and sungon the same terms as the original.
