Uma abordagem narrativa da Bioética: a Ética da autenticidade e as tecnologias de aprimoramento

O principal objetivo da presente apreciação é mostrar a importância da narrativa para a bioética. Para começar, em sua primeira seção, apresentaremos a maneira como a chamada ética da autenticidade configura-se como um tipo especial de abordagem narrativa da ética. Na seção subsequente introduziremos, por sua vez, a problemática envolvendo as chamadas tecnologias de aprimoramento. O motivo pelo qual optamos por abordar a problemática envolvendo as tecnologias de aprimoramento, em vez de outras questões com algum impacto proporcionalmente mais direto em nossas vidas, deve-se ao fato de essas tecnologias serem ainda pouco exploradas em bioética. Dando continuidade às seções anteriores, a terceira seção deste trabalho buscará mostrar como a ética da autenticidade relaciona-se, em certo sentido, às tecnologias de aprimoramento, bem como algumas das implicações decorrentes dessa relação. Até esse ponto, esperamos que fique claro a existência de um vínculo entre a narrativa, a ética da autenticidade e as tecnologias de aprimoramento. Ademais, a quarta seção irá explorar um pouco mais a fundo essa relação ao invocar os conceitos de autodescoberta e autocriação para indicar como e quando um indivíduo está legitimado, ou não, do ponto de vista da autenticidade, a fazer o uso de tecnologias de aprimoramento. Chegando finalmente às considerações finais da presente apreciação, refletiremos se é prudente ignorar as teorias normativas tradicionais na abordagem de questões em bioética.Palavras-chave: Aprimoramento; autenticidade; bioética; narrativa; tecnologias. A narrative approach of bioethics: the ethics of authenticity and the enhancement technologiesAbstract:The main purpose of this appraisal is to indicate the importance of the narrative account to the field of bioethics. Initially, we will present, in the first section, how the so-called ethics of authenticity sets up as a special kind of narrative approach to ethics. In the subsequent section we will introduce the issues involving the so-called enhancement technologies to this work. The reason we choose to address the issues involving the enhancement technologies, instead of some other issues with proportionally more direct impact on our lives, is due to the fact that these are still little explored in bioethics. Continuing the previous sections, the third section of this paper aims to show how the ethics of authenticity is related, in some sense, to the enhancement technologies, and what are some of the implications of this relationship. Up to this point, we hope to make clear the existence of a link between the narrative account, the ethics of authenticity and the enhancement technologies. Moreover, the fourth section will explore a little further this relationship by invoking the concepts of self-discovery and self-creation to indicate how and when an individual is legitimate, or not, from the point of view of authenticity, in making use of enhancement technologies. Finally reaching the final considerations of this appraisal, we will reflect whether it is prudent to ignore the traditional normative theories on the approaching of issues in bioethics.Keywords: Authenticity; bioethics; enhancement; narrative; technologies.
