Individualidade e vis cogitativa no Grande comentário ao De Anima de Averróis

A tese de Averróis a respeito da unidade do intelecto material foi amplamente rejeitada pelo século XIII, sobretudo, por Tomás de Aquino. A acusação afirma que se o homem for privado da presença do intelecto em sua alma, nada lhe restaria de autônomo e individual. No entanto, Averróis parece não considerar a separação do intelecto um problema, pois a individualidade humana seguirá por outro caminho que não se apoiará na presença do intelecto na alma, e que será estabelecida por meio dos sentidos internos das almas humanas com os intelectos que estão separados da matéria. Neste sentido, o objetivo deste artigo é analisar como a vis cogitativa, o principal sentido interno presente no homem, é o elemento utilizado por Averróis para garantir a autonomia e a individualidade do pensamento.Palavras-chave: Cogitação, conjunção, intelecto, habitus, individualidadeAbstractThe Averroes' thesis on the unity of the material intellect was largely rejected by the thirteenth century, especially by Thomas Aquinas. The accusation affirms that if man were deprived of the presence of the intellect in his soul, nothing left of his autonomy and individuality. However, Averroes does not seem to regard this separation as a problem, human individuality will follow another path which will not rest on the presence of the intellect in the soul, but on another kind of relationship, established through the inner senses of human souls with intellects that are separated from matter. In this sense, the aim of this article is to analyze how the called vis cogitativa, the main internal sense present in man, is the element used by Averroes to guarantee the autonomy and the individuality of man’s thoughts.Keywords: Cogitation, conjunction, intellect, habitus, individuality
