Resumo: | In the Portuguese constitutional context, as well as throughout the process of independence and formation of the national State in the early 19th century, both land use and the capture of indigenous labor were central to Ceará’s destiny, as well as the definition of its citizenship. This text will prioritize discussions on land and indigenous work, focusing on the political action of these populations in their projects to define their own citizenship. It will be divided into two moments: in the first, it will discuss the events related to the constitutional advent in Ceará through the changes promoted by the Cortes of Lisbon, the clash between different powers in the province and the relationship of the indigenous people with the process. Then, it will analyze a documentary set of memoirs (or proposals) produced by individuals and city councils between 1821 and 1822 to be sent to the empire's government in Europe. Written by both indigenous and non-indigenous people, many expressed the way they projected the work modalities of this population, the condition of guardianship and the definition of citizenship, making it an object of intense disputes, crucial for understanding the formation of the State Brazilian national. |
