Domestic work: considerations on a recent matter in the Social History of Work in Brazil

http://dx.doi.org/10.5007/1984-9222.2014v7n13p275This paper analyzes the emergence of the theme “domestic work” in the Brazilian Historiography in the latest years, particularly in the field of Social History in Brazil. In order to do so, it is proposed an analysis on the changes and renewals in this field of history which generated greater interest in issues that previously were not privileged by historians. Then, we intend to discuss the ways in which the subject has been approached by recent historical research. In this case, we emphasize the advances made in studies about different regions of the country, especially in the time frame that extends from the mid-nineteenth century to the twentieth century. However, this work also means to indicate that there is still a long way of research to tread related to the history of labor and domestic workers.
