Resumo: The political crisis of October 1930, which culminated in the fall of First Republic (1889-1930), were marked in Salvador by a protest against Linha Circular, a company monopolizing urban services (public transport, telephone and electricity). Between the evening of 4 th and the morning of 5 th , people attacked the propriety of that local company of General Electric, causing damage amounting from 1 to 2 million dollars. The protest damaged not just public transport, energy and telephone, but the water system, partially dependent on electricity. But Quebra-Bondes received little attention from the traditional historiography. This article presents a systematic picture of the situation in public transport, energy and telephone in the years 1926-1930. It reset the meaning of the popular uprising, pointing out the direct and indirect role played by Circular in three other sectors, i. e., housing, sanitation and urban supply. The text doesn’t approach the protest itself, neither its connection to the 1930 revolution, but analyses small, but similar demonstrations, which took place in previous years, being an inspiration for the popular uprising of October 4 th and 5 th of 1930. These previous demonstrations expressed a memory regarding the power of popular classes in disturbing the daily life of capital city in transformation.

These previous demonstrations expressed a memory regarding the power of popular classes in disturbing the daily life of capital city in transformation. Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (UFSC)2023-08-29info:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionapplication/pdfhttps://periodicos.ufsc.br/index.php/mundosdotrabalho/article/view/9516710.5007/1984-9222.2023.e95167Revista Mundos do Trabalho; Vol. 15 (2023); 1-24Revista Mundos do Trabalho; Vol. 15 (2023); 1-24Revista Mundos do Trabalho; v. 15 (2023); 1-241984-9222reponame:Revista Mundos do Trabalhoinstname:Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (UFSC)instacron:UFSCporhttps://periodicos.ufsc.br/index.php/mundosdotrabalho/article/view/95167/54123Copyright (c) 2023 Revista Mundos do Trabalhoinfo:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessBrito, Jonas2023-10-27T01:19:34Zoai:periodicos.ufsc.br:article/95167Revistahttp://www.periodicos.ufsc.br/index.php/mundosdotrabalhoPUBhttps://periodicos.ufsc.br/index.php/mundosdotrabalho/oai||revistamundosdotrabalho@gmail.com|| portaldeperiodicos.bu@contato.ufsc.br1984-92221984-9222opendoar:2023-10-27T01:19:34Revista Mundos do Trabalho - Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (UFSC)false
