MODES OF REPRESENTATION OF HIV/AIDS IN THE DOCUMENTARY QUEER IN THE UNITED STATES (1980/1990)

Resumo: | The present work intends to investigate the forms of representation of HIV/AIDS in the queer documentary in the United States, a country that already came from a period of strong political mobilization regarding the rights of identity groups, which generated a specific documentary production, beginning in the 1970s, aligned with the militant ideals of “gay liberation”. In the context of advancement, dissemination and deaths from HIV/AIDS, New Queer Cinema appears in the cinema, a cinematographic movement made up of LGBTQIA + directors who also aim to offer answers and promote debate in relation to the health crisis, through films that they defied aesthetic rules and had a strong political content. This research focuses on queer documentaries, bringing films together into three broad categories: “videoactivism”, “HIV / AIDS as an identity” and “HIV / AIDS as a political overflow of subjectivity”. |

En el contexto del avance, la difusión y las muertes por sida, aparece en el cine el Nuevo Cine Queer, un movimiento cinematográfico formado por directores LGBTQIA + que intentan dar respuesta a la crisis a través de películas que desafiaron las reglas estéticas y que tenían su temática en torno a alrededor del síndrome. Esta investigación se centra en el documental, agrupando las películas en tres amplias categorías: “videoactivismo”, “VIH/SIDA como identidad” y “VIH/SIDA como desborde político de subjetividad”.O presente trabalho pretende investigar as formas de representação do HIV/AIDS no documentário queer nos Estados Unidos, país que já vinha de um período de forte mobilização política quanto aos direitos de grupos identitários, o que gerou uma produção documental específica, com início na década de 1970, alinhada com os ideais militantes da “liberação gay”. No contexto de avanço, disseminação e mortes pelo HIV/AIDS, surge, no cinema, o New Queer Cinema, movimento cinematográfico constituído por diretores e diretoras LGBTQIA+ que almejam também oferecer respostas e promover debate em relação à crise sanitária, por meio de filmes que desafiavam regras estéticas e tinham forte teor político. Essa pesquisa centra-se em documentários queer, aglutinando os filmes em torno de três grandes categorias: “videoativismo”, “HIV/AIDS como identidade” e “HIV/AIDS como transbordamento político da subjetividade”.
