Resumo: This article addresses maternal narratives about breastfeeding and weaning in order to understand how these experiences are experienced, taking into account the expanded concept of health, that encompasses cultural elements, living and working conditions, education, among other factors that impact health. Based on the theoretical and methodological frameworks of Foucault-inspired Discourse Analysis and Gender Studies, we observe how women's experiences are affected by contemporary maternity models that have been reinforced by national policy discourses of breastfeeding promotion, as well as suffer consequences of public policies that go beyond the scope of health.
