Resumo: Through the concept of sonicity, developed in the present text, Wolfgang Ernst seeks to reconstruct sound both in its aesthetic character, as a manifest temporal phenomenon inscribed in a certain technocultural environment, and in its epistemological dimension, as object of information and knowledge. In addition to presenting the theoretical unfolding of his research on the sound expressions of media, Ernst demonstrates how his particular approach on the prominent field of Media Archeology operates. Through a technomathematical drive towards such objects, Ernst highlights one of the main methodological implications of his research: deriving insights from the interior of the technological agents. This article presents a partial translation of the first chapter of his book Sonic Time Machines: Explicit Sound, Sirenic Voices, and Implicit Sonicity, where such questions are addressed.

This article presents a partial translation of the first chapter of his book Sonic Time Machines: Explicit Sound, Sirenic Voices, and Implicit Sonicity, where such questions are addressed.
