This paper presents Design as a technology and from this premise intends to relate it to the innovation process. Therefore, we introduce some concepts and definitions of innovation, as well as its taxonomy. First, we focus on technological innovation, since its straight relation to Design, Science and Technology. Through the text, other forms of innovation are presented, as Service Innovation, a sector that is increasingly valued by companies concerned to consume fewer products and think in a sustainable way. Thus, the service design helps create new services or improve existing ones in order to make them more useful and efficient for organizations. It's new area of Design, more holistic, multidisciplinary and integrative, which aims to provide innovative approaches for companies and government, so that they can meet the contemporary socio-economic challeng (MORITZ, 2005). Furthermore, Social Innovation can also provide a new way to sustainability, especially when it comes with Design tools. Social Innovation is a movement of activities and new services that intend to meet social needs. They are generally developed and spread by organizations with social purposes.
