From these two translations, a single Portuguese version was created, which was subsequently translated back into English by two native North-American English speakers. The back translations were compared with the original text. Discrepancies wereadjusted and the pre-final Portuguese version was created. This versionwas submitted to a pre-test in a sample of 30 patients having a prime complaint of perineal or ejaculatory pain or discomfort. Each item of the pre-final version was assigned a grade (from zero to ten) for the degree of understanding/clarity, and appropriate adjustments were made, if necessary. The final Portuguese version was submitted to a test/reteststage with another 30 patients presenting with similar symptoms. In this phase, face validity was evaluated and the psychometric properties ofreliability and internal consistency were assessed by the Pearson correlation coefficient (p) and Cronbach's a, respectively. Results: All items of the instrument during the pre-test stage had a mean grade of comprehension/clarity greater than eight, which indicates that the items were considered clearly understandable by patients. However,in the evaluation of face validity, there was evidence of inconsistency initem three, which had to be reformulated. The final Brazilian version, designated NIH-CPSI (Braz), demonstrated good reliability (a =0.89-0.99) and internal consistency (Cronbach's a =0.85-0.93). Conclusions: The NIH-CPSI was adapted to Brazil and its original properties were retained. The NIH-CPSI (Braz) version consists of a valid instrument to assess symptoms of chronic prostatitis in Brazilian patients.Neves, Fabrício de SouzaUniversidade Federal de Santa CatarinaNovotny, Cristiano2014-08-06T17:24:43Z2014-08-06T17:24:43Z2013info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersioninfo:eu-repo/semantics/masterThesis66 p.| il., tabs.application/pdf322853https://repositorio.ufsc.br/xmlui/handle/123456789/122814porreponame:Repositório Institucional da UFSCinstname:Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (UFSC)instacron:UFSCinfo:eu-repo/semantics/openAccess2014-08-06T17:24:43Zoai:repositorio.ufsc.br:123456789/122814Repositório InstitucionalPUBhttp://150.162.242.35/oai/requestopendoar:23732014-08-06T17:24:43Repositório Institucional da UFSC - Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (UFSC)false |
