Alicerçando-se em A Obra-Prima Desconhecida (1837), cujo esquema dramático se desenvolve em torno de um objeto de arte, precisamente uma pintura, inicia-se com um estudo que tem a finalidade de compreender de que maneira a pintura se infiltra na narrativa balzaquiana, e quais efeitos transparecem na criação romanesca. Em seguida analisa-se como, em uma espécie de movimento contínuo e incessante de escritura, o autor busca, de modo aparentemente antagônico, aproximar-se do absoluto em sua arte e ao mesmo tempo captar a essência do comportamento humano e da natureza. Dado que o paradoxo realismo/crise de representação nas artes perpassa toda a pesquisa, dedica-se uma parte da investigação ao tema. Para finalizar, destacam-se as ressonâncias de A Obra-Prima Desconhecida na posteridade. O desenrolar da pesquisa estrutura-se tanto na análise das narrativas que compõem o corpus, quanto no amparo teórico de especialistas e escritores, como Georges Didi-Huberman, Félicien Marceau, Walter Siti, Bernard Vouilloux, entre outros.Abstract: The focus of this research is to investigate how, in his work, the novelist Honoré de Balzac (1799-1850) uses painting and narrative description to support the representation of the customs of the society of his time. Based on The Unknown Masterpiece (1837), whose dramatic scheme develops around an art object, specifically, a painting, the present study aims to understand how the painting infiltrates the Balzaquian narrative, and what effects are reflected in the novel. Then, we analyze how, in a sort of continuous and incessant movement of writing, the author seeks, in an apparently antagonistic way, to approach the absolute in his art and at the same time to grasp the essence of human behavior and nature. Given that the paradox realism / crisis of representation in the arts pervades this research, part of the research is devoted to this subject. Finally, the resonances of The Unknown Masterpiece in posterity are highlighted.
