As questões norteadoras do trabalho incluem as variações internas ao sistema de pilotagem de ondas, e a forma como esta modalidade de navegação emergiu do contexto mais geral da navegação da Oceania. A fim de tratar desta problemática, serão utilizados dois eixos comparativos. O primeiro diz respeito à comparação das diferentes descrições do sistema de pilotagem de ondas, visando localizar as variações internas da navegação tradicional marshallina, e identificar suas causas. Esta comparação será ordenada de forma a reconstituir uma viagem navegada entre duas ilhas, buscando introduzir o leitor às práticas da navegação marshallina. O segundo eixo volta-se para a comparação deste sistema com outro tipo de navegação comum à Oceania, que será descrito em uma seção específica. A partir da reconciliação destes dois eixos comparativos as questões supracitadas serão levadas adiante. As comparações serão precedidas por uma seção reservada aos esclarecimentos necessários para o entendimento do sistema de pilotagem de ondas, incluindo informações sobre o ambiente das Ilhas Marshall e explicações sobre determinados fenômenos oceanográficos.This study is a bibliographical revision about the navigation system characteristic of the Marshall Islands, called wave piloting. The guiding questions of this paper include the internal variations of the wave piloting system, and the way this form of navigation emerged from the broader context of traditional navigation of Oceania. To answer this questions, two comparative axis will be used. The first consists in a comparison of multiple descriptions of the wave piloting system, aimed to localize and identify the causes of the internal variations of marshallese traditional navigation. This comparison will be organized to reconstruct a navigated voyage between two islands, aiming to introduce the reader to the marshallese navigation practices. The second axis consists in a comparison of the wave piloting system with another kind of navigation common to Oceania, wich will be described in a specific session. From the reconciliation of this two comparative axis, the aforementioned questions will be advanced.
