Resumo: Confronted by a situation of disinformation, educational institutions have re-signified their actions, not only aimed at training based on formal curricular content, but also to raise in students and teachers a critical thinking and awareness about their role in confronting this reality. In this sense, given the experience of the extension project "Comunica UEPB: o despertar da consciência crítica e o combate à disinformação como ações de comunicação extra-muros" (The awakening of critical consciousness and the fight against misinformation as extra-mural communication actions), which held workshops to fight misinformation with students and teachers of the Escola Estadual Cidadã Integral Técnica (ECIT) Prefeito Oswaldo Pessoa, located in João Pessoa, Paraíba, we developed this descriptive, qualitative and documental research, with the objective of demonstrating the possibilities of articulation between critical competence in information and educommunication for the development of extension activities to fight misinformation with high school students and teachers in Paraíba. Although permeated by a series of challenges, this extension experience enabled the approximation between the academic knowledge and the school reality and showed the importance of the active participation of students and the offer of improvement to teachers with a focus on the critical competence in information and educommunication, to combat disinformation.

Neste sentido, diante da experiência do projeto de extensão “Comunica UEPB: o despertar da consciência crítica e o combate à desinformação como ações de comunicação extra-muros”, que realizou oficinas de combate à desinformação junto a estudantes e docentes da Escola Estadual Cidadã Integral Técnica (ECIT) Prefeito Oswaldo Pessoa, localizada em João Pessoa, Paraíba, desenvolvemos essa pesquisa descritiva, qualitativa e documental, com o objetivo de demonstrar as possibilidades de articulação entre a competência crítica em informação e a educomunicação para o desenvolvimento de atividades extensionistas de combate à desinformação junto a estudantes e professores de ensino médio da Paraíba.
