Resumo: This paper analyzes the military imagery in the poetry of Ronald Polito, with the background of the discussion undertaken by anthropologists and planners on the privatization / militarization of public space and the development of phobic feelings in relation to the urban environment. The paper also highlights the traumatic potential of images linked to a certain spectral presence of the city as well as merging with the natural (not human) landscape as a defense against the stresses of life on the streets.
