Resumo: | This paper aims to analyze the creation of a fictional future in two science fiction works: The Word for World is Forest, by Ursula K. Le Guin, and Binti, by Nnedi Okorafor. In order to emphasize the referential aspect of both works, which exists despite the discrepancy between the real world and the fictional one, we associate Walter Benjamin's approach to historiography, starting with the concept of dialectical image, with the writing in the two aforementioned science fiction texts. To do so, we contrast Benjamin's theory of time with Saint Augustine's threefold present, as well as the latter's comments on predicting the future. Hereinafter, Le Guin's and Adam Robert's views on how science fiction portrays the future will also be of utmost importance to our analysis. |
