Resumo: This study addresses aspects of Fronteira, the first book by the writer Cornélio Penna, which, aesthetically configured from a modern perspective, denote an interpenetration between the historical-social and psychological dimensions. To do so, at first, a reflection is made on the fragility of the division of the Romance of the 1930s between social and intimate writers. After that, the incomplete formulation of the plot is analyzed in Fronteira, thus pointing out, in Cornelian work, characteristics of the modern novel.
