Resumo: This work is a study about the short story “Morte segunda”, by Caio Fernando Abreu, included in the book Inventário do irremediável, the first one by this writer, published in 1970 by Editora Movimento. We take Walter Benjamin as our main theoretical reference in order to purpose interpretative hypotheses regarding some formal options followed by Abreu when he works on the category death. The references to violence, oppression, the polyssemic language, in an allegorical interpretation, allow to associate the story to the context of social and political repression at the time it was written.

Nossa referência teórica se pauta por reflexões de Walter Benjamin e objetiva propor hipóteses interpretativas a respeito de algumas opções formais adotadas por Abreu ao tratar da categoria morte.
